Baked Tortilla Chips

I love going to Mexican restaurants that serve freshly made tortilla chips.  They taste soo good when they are warm and perfectly crisp.  The only downside to restaurant chips is that they are usually fried in oil.  To create a healthier version, I baked my chips instead of frying them.

Q:  What do you call a monkey that loves tortilla chips?
A:  A chipmonk.

Ingredients: Serves as many as you want.
  • white corn tortillas (you can use any type of tortilla you want – whole wheat, yellow corn, flour, etc)
  • salt
  • olive oil spray
Assembly:
  1. Preheat oven 400º.
  2. Line a baking sheet with foil.
  3. Lightly spray both sides of each tortilla with olive oil.
  4. Cut tortillas into triangle wedges using a pizza cutter.
  5. Lay on baking sheet.
  6. Sprinkle with a tad bit of salt.  (This is optional.)
  7. Bake for 10 minutes or until golden brown.  *Keep a close eye on the chips because after about 5 minutes, the chips can burn easily.
  8. Allow to cool.  Chips will continue to crisp as they cool.
