Go Ballistic: Fresh Popcorn

Here’s another Super Bowl recipe for the upcoming weekend.  Instead of serving toxic popcorn from the pre-made bags, serve this healthy alternative.  The best part about making your own popcorn is that you can personalize it using spices you already have in your kitchen and it’s much cheaper than buying the pre-made bags.

  • ¼ cup popcorn seeds
  • 1 tsp. oil
  • salt, to taste
  • 1 brown paper bag
  • 2 tsp. butter
  • any seasonings you desire, to taste
  1. Pour ¼ cup popcorn into a brown paper bag.
  2. Add a sprinkle of salt and a teaspoon of oil.
  3. Fold the bag over several times (no need to staple or tape; stapling will start a FIRE).
  4. Cook in microwave for about 2 ½ minutes or until it slows to 5 seconds between each pop.
  5. Take the bag out of the microwave, shake it up and pour it into a bowl.
  6. Heat 2 tsp. butter for 5-10 seconds.
  7. Drizzle butter over popcorn.
  8. Add salt, to taste.
  9. Add any other spices you like (chili powder, garlic powder, etc.).
  • Don’t forget to recycle your brown bag!
