A Naan-Traditional Pizza Recipe

15 Jan

My good friends, Shilpa and Sean, were in town for MLK weekend.  They had a flight to catch and we needed to fill their bellies quick!  So, in under an hour, we went to Trader Joe’s, picked up our ingredients (most of which we already had at home), and cooked this quick and delicious twist on pizza for dinner.  Thank you Meera Patel for the lovely idea!

Wanna hear a good joke about pizza? . . . Nevermind, it’s too cheesy.

Ingredients: Serves 2.
  • 1 pack Trader Joe’s garlic naan (contains 4 naan) $2.29 *You can also use whole wheat pita bread.
  • 1 26 oz. bottle Trader Giotti’s Tomato Basil Marinara $1.79
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • olive oil
  • ground black pepper
  • fresh basil leaves
  • 1 diced tomato
  • dried oregano
Assembly:
  1. Put the garlic naan on a pizza tray.
  2. Lightly oil (½ tsp. per naan) the top of each naan.  Use your fingers or a brush to spread the oil into the greases.
  3. Sprinkle each with a pinch of black pepper and oregano.
  4. Add 2-3 tbsp. sauce per naan.
  5. Add broken basil leaves.
  6. Add mozzarella cheese and tomatoes.
  7. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.
Serving suggestions:
  • Garnish crushed red pepper on the pizza for those who like it spicy.

you can also use whole wheat pita bread as an alternative to naan

whole wheat pita bread is much healthier than naan

and, the crust is much thinner for those who like it thin & crispy!
